This course provides practical training in remote communications and emergency planning for individuals working, traveling, or recreating in isolated environments. Participants will learn how to assess remote-area risks, select and use communication equipment, develop emergency and check-in plans, navigate and communicate location information, respond to emergencies, and make sound decisions under stress. The course also addresses communication redundancy, human factors, emergency preparedness, and Alaska-specific hazards and operating considerations.
